This item is framed (55 x 36 cm.], printed and written on vellum, a photographic reproduction of Curtis' "The Oath-Apsaroke," together with a l2-line undated AMsS on the American Indian, written and signed by Curtis. He feels that American Indian culture should be studied as quickly as possible, because their traditions were in danger of being lost with rapid changes taking place.

Edward Sheriff Curtis, American photographer and ethnologist, was born near Whitewater, WI, in 1868 and grew up in Seattle, WA. Fascinated with the Indians and their way of life he embarked on lifelong career dedicated to presenting "the very spirit of the Indian peoples" in photographs, film, recordings and print.
